October 13, 1943 - July 10, 2026

Neil John Carey died peacefully at home in Coquitlam July 10, 2026 after a year of declining health.

Thank you to the wonderful team at Eagle Ridge Hospital and to his Nurse Practitioner Allie Windsor for the excellent care he received.

Neil was born October 13, 1943 to loving parents Marian Macaulay and Roderick Carey. He loved his siblings Herb, Roy, Mary and John, his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and all "the outlaws". Recently, he grew closer to his Macaulay cousins as they explored their family roots together.

He treasured his close circle of friends. Neil was a well respected teacher librarian in Burnaby for 33 years. His Rosser years were very special to him.

Neil met Joy at UBC and they began their happy marriage in 1970. After 17 years of fun and adventure they welcomed their dear son Andrew, who couldn't have had a finer dad.

Neil enjoyed many interests during his lifetime, including cats Riley and Mulligan, gardening, creative cooking and baking, dining out, wine, music, art, theatre, history, geography, genealogy, politics, chess, bridge, walking, swimming, fishing, sailing, cruising, Knowledge, PBS and sports on TV, reading and travelling, to name a few.

Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, France, the British Isles and most especially Hawaii were favourite destinations.

Much more could be written about a man who was so good, kind, thoughtful and generous. He always put others before himself. Neil maintained obits are for the living and at the end wished to say only one word: Aloha.
